solv Supports Gas Safety Week 2024

solv Supports Gas Safety Week 2024

Gas Safety Week 2024 is here, running from 9th to 15th September, and solv is proud to support this crucial initiative led by Gas Safe Register, the only official gas registration body for gas businesses and engineers in the UK. This week serves as a vital reminder to homeowners, landlords, and tenants about the importance of staying gas safe, and solv is dedicated to spreading awareness and ensuring our community is protected.

What is Gas Safety Week?

Gas Safety Week is an annual campaign that raises awareness of gas safety and the importance of taking care of your gas appliances. Poorly maintained gas appliances can lead to serious safety risks, including gas leaks, fires, explosions, and carbon monoxide poisoning. This week is all about educating the public on how to stay safe and protect their homes from these dangers.

solv’s Commitment to Gas Safety

At solv, your safety is our priority. As registered Gas Safe engineers, we ensure that all our work complies with the highest standards of safety and quality. Throughout Gas Safety Week, we’re committed to helping you understand the importance of regular gas appliance checks and ensuring that your home or business is protected.

Top Tips for Staying Gas Safe

Here are some essential gas safety tips, adapted from the Gas Safety Week leaflet, that we encourage everyone to follow:

  1. Annual Gas Safety Check
Make sure you have your gas appliances checked every year by a qualified Gas Safe registered engineer. If you’re renting, remember it’s your landlord’s responsibility to arrange these checks and provide you with a Gas Safety Record.
  2. Check Your Engineer’s Credentials
Always verify that the engineer working on your gas appliances is registered with Gas Safe. This ensures they are qualified to perform the work safely and legally. See sample ID card below for reference:

  1. Look for Warning Signs
Watch out for any signs that your gas appliances may not be working correctly, such as dark, sooty stains around the appliances or lazy yellow flames. These indicate potential issues that need immediate attention.
  2. Ensure Proper Ventilation
Your gas appliances need proper ventilation to function safely. Make sure that vents and flues are not blocked, as this could lead to dangerous situations.
  3. Install and Maintain Carbon Monoxide Alarms
Carbon monoxide is a silent killer. Install a CO alarm that meets standards BS EN 50291, and regularly check that it is working correctly.
  4. Encourage Loved Ones to Stay Safe
Gas safety is everyone’s responsibility. Check on your family and friends, especially the vulnerable, and encourage them to follow these simple safety checks.
