What Is Gas Safety Week?
Gas Safety Week 2025 is an annual awareness campaign that runs from Monday 8th September to Sunday 14th September. It’s organised by the Gas Safe Register — the official body for gas engineers in the UK — to highlight the importance of maintaining your gas appliances and ensuring they’re safe to use.
At solv, we’re proud to support this nationwide campaign. With over many years of experience serving Belfast and beyond, our Gas Safe registered engineers are committed to keeping your home safe and your boiler running efficiently.
Why Gas Safety Week Matters
Gas appliances, if left unchecked, can become dangerous and lead to risks such as:
-
Gas leaks
-
Carbon monoxide poisoning
-
Fires and explosions
Every year, incidents occur that could have been prevented with regular servicing and safety checks. Gas Safety Week acts as a reminder to homeowners to take action before problems arise.
solv’s Role in Gas Safety
At solv, we’re proud to be Gas Safe registered and fully trained to service, repair, and install gas appliances safely. Our engineers:
-
Carry out annual boiler servicing to ensure your system is running safely and efficiently.
-
Check for gas leaks and carbon monoxide risks during appointments.
-
Provide professional advice to keep your appliances safe year-round.
During Gas Safety Week, we’ll also be sharing five short educational videos across our social channels — one each weekday — offering practical gas safety tips, from recognising warning signs in your boiler to understanding why annual servicing is so important.
Your Role as a Homeowner
While solv is here to help, gas safety starts at home. Here are four essential steps you can take to protect your household:
1. Book an Annual Service
An annual boiler service by a Gas Safe registered engineer helps identify potential issues early and ensures your appliance is working safely.
2. Check for Warning Signs
Be aware of:
-
A yellow, floppy flame instead of a crisp blue one
-
Soot or black marks around your boiler
-
Strange smells or condensation near appliances
If you spot these, call us immediately.
3. Install a Carbon Monoxide Alarm
Carbon monoxide is colourless and odourless, making it almost impossible to detect without an alarm. Installing one is an inexpensive way to protect your family.
4. Know What to Do If You Smell Gas 🚨
If you smell gas or suspect a leak, act immediately:
-
Turn off your gas supply at the meter
-
Open windows and doors to ventilate your home
-
Avoid using electrical switches or naked flames
-
Call the National Gas Emergency Helpline on 0800 002 001
Staying calm and acting quickly could prevent a serious incident.
