Introduction:
Business in the Community (BITC), an existing customer of solv based in East Belfast, is the only network for responsible business in Northern Ireland. This year sees the 35th anniversary of the organisation which now has more than 270 members. BITC helps member organisations to use their business as a force for good with their people, the planet and in the places in which they are located.
Defining the Challenge:
BITC faced a significant heating challenge, with a dated heating system that was susceptible to breaking down a number of times each year. Increasing running costs and slow heating times made the system inefficient in terms of financial and environmental resources, and also had an impact on the comfort levels of people using the building.
Smart Service Solutions:
After several years of servicing BITC’s boilers, it was clear the heating system was not fit for future purpose. solv provided a range of potential options to rectify the situation, which resulted in the decision to upgrade the heating system and install a new, high-efficiency boiler. The upgrade aimed to address the existing issues and improve overall heating efficiency.
Making It Happen:
solv’s team tailored the solution by replacing the old cast-iron sectional gas boiler with a modern, high-efficiency commercial gas boiler and associated system upgrade. The upgrade focused on optimising the heating system to enhance efficiency.
The replacement process spanned three days, involving decommissioning the existing boiler, isolating the system, fitting new pipework and a boiler flue system, along with a new heating system pump. The meticulous steps ensured a seamless transition to the new heating solution.
Throughout the entire process, solv remained connected with BITC. Paul Toman, from the solv team, maintained constant communication through phone and email, conducting prescheduled site visits to ensure the project ran smoothly and to required deadlines.
Measuring Success:
BITC reported a positive impact on its heating efficiency and overall comfort within the building. The transformation involved the installation of a high-efficiency gas boiler, reducing running costs and significantly enhancing heating efficiency. The project addressed the initial heating challenges and also showcased solv’s commitment to delivering solutions that go beyond the expected.
